Ancient Healing for a Modern World

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes.  You will be laying on a treatment table during the treatment period.  Stretch pants without elastic at the ankle, vee neck t-shirts or tank tops are good.  In some cases, if you do have to remove clothing, you will be properly draped and the room kept a comfortable temperature.

Do You Work With Children?

Yes. As a Grandmother I have a special interest in seeing our children maintain good health and vitality.  However, acupuncture is rarely used in children under the age of 10.  I employ a special technique know as Chinese Children's Massage, which is more than just a "feel good" form of massage -- it actually promotes health and healing.  I enjoy seeing a child with a fever or a runny nose get better within a few hours with these special techniques, which I teach to parents so they can help their children in times of need.

Conditions that can be effectively treated with Chinese Children's Massage are: Common cold; fever; respiratory problems; digestive problems -- including colic, diarrhea and constipation; improving the immune system; bed wetting; and night crying.  It can also be used as a preventative measure for keeping children healthy.

There are also some wonderful herbal formulas that help children.

Are There Other Areas You Specialize In?

Yes.  Having been a massage therapist for 11 years, I've learned a lot of bodywork techniques along the way.  One of these special techniques is called Cranio-Sacral Therapy.  This is a very gentle form of bodywork that many people find deeply relaxing.  It can speed the effectiveness of an acupuncture treatment with issues such as pain and headache.  But it is most effective in helping with anxiety, depression and other emotional disorders and has been found to be helpful for children and adults with ADD.

Another form of gentle massage is Jin Shin Do, which means "Way of the Compassionate Spirit" in Japanese. This technique uses gentle touch at acupressure points to rebalance the body.  This can reduce pain, calm anxiety and bring relaxation.

Because of my massage training, I attempt to make the acupuncture experience as relaxing and pleasant as possible by incorporating soothing music, aromatherapy and a gentle needling technique.

I have also taken training as a doula (birth assistant) and love working with women in all the cycles of their lives -- from menstrual problems, to infertility, pregnancy and menopausal issues.  Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have been found to be extremely helpful with these issues, since it helps to rebalance the body.
